Erland Cooper is a Scottish musician, composer, producer and studio owner. He is known for his modern arrangements of traditional Scottish and English folk songs. A co-founder of the folk rock band Erland and the Carnival and shoegaze outfit The Magnetic North, Cooper started releasing solo recordings in 2018. His solo work combines classical orchestration with elements of contemporary electronic music and field recordings. He lives and works in London.

In 2020, Scottish ambient composer Erland Cooper had a wild idea. He wrote a classical violin concerto and buried the single recording of it in his Orkney home. After being discovered and dug up after 18 months, Carve The Runes Then Be Content With Silence is celebrating an official release in 2024.
